2026 Chroma, Color, and Contrast
I am thrilled that Blue Morocco was juried into SFVACC’s Chroma, Color, and Contrast Exhibition curated by David S. Rubin.
The exhibition will run at TAG Gallery from Wednesday, February 25 – March 20, 2026 and online at www.sfvacc.org. This exhibition looks at the interplay between hues, values, and intensities, and how contrast can spark emotion, define space, or disrupt expectation.
Opening Reception: Saturday, February 28 from 5-8 pm
At 6:30 pm the Juror, David S. Rubin, will share how he made his curatorial choices and Award Presentations.
“Blue Morocco” is a captured moment from the heart of Chefchaouen, a city that breathes in shades of cerulean. This photograph is not merely a depiction of a location, but an immersion into its very essence. The saturated blue that washes over almost every surface – the walls, the doorways, the very air itself – is a response to the city’s profound spiritual and cultural significance. It’s a color that speaks of tranquility, introspection, and a connection to the divine, a vibrant yet calming omnipresence that envelops the inhabitant and visitor alike.
Against this breathtaking backdrop, the figure of a woman, adorned in traditional dress, ascends a weathered, staired pathway. Her presence is a grounding element within the expansive blue, a testament to the enduring human spirit and cultural traditions that thrive within this unique environment. The act of her climb, a common yet often overlooked gesture of daily life, becomes imbued with a subtle narrative of perseverance and grace. Through “Blue Morocco,” I sought to translate the sensory poetry of the city – the cool touch of the painted walls, the quiet rhythm of footsteps on stone, and the vibrant, almost palpable hue that defines its soul. This image is an invitation to experience Chefchaouen not just as a visual spectacle, but as a feeling, a deep and resonant blue that lingers long after the gaze has moved on.
