ENTRY DESCRIPTION
Over the years I have photographed sunlight bathe a scene in a gentle ambient light, add a cool morning cast, add a warm afternoon glow or create biting contrast with intense highlights and concealing black shadows. This series of photographs explores the later, where the sun carves the shadows like a laser, creating geometric shape and drawing your eye to the subject with pinpoint precision. The mood of these images comes from the barren cityscapes and the denizens who weave their way through the shadows and bring scale and life to each scene.

Eric M Renard is one of California’s Leading contemporary Fine Art Photographers. His passion for photography was ignited at Tufts University in Boston, where he studied under Siegfried Halus. After graduating, Eric returned to San Francisco, where he worked as an architectural real estate photographer before moving to Los Angeles. He has explored the modern world through black & white photography, though he is equally well-known for his distinctive color work. His recent black and white exhibitions have focused on high contrast, urban cityscapes which portray an eerie sense of peace and tranquility. The landscape is the hero, with the people in them subject to the power of their surroundings.
