Halfzee

“Halfzee” captures a moment of illusion, a playful dance between presence and absence. The monochrome palette focuses on the pattern of the zebra and the intriguing interruption of its presence. The wall, a solid, immutable barrier, becomes a collaborator in the narrative, selectively revealing and concealing, transforming a familiar creature into something mythical.

This photograph explores the power of suggestion and the viewer’s inherent desire to complete what is only partially presented. We, as observers, are invited to mentally reconstruct the absent half, to imagine the full dynamism and grace of the zebra held captive within the frame’s boundaries. It’s a study in perception, questioning how our minds fill in the gaps and how simple geometric obstructions can conjure profound visual narratives from the ordinary. “Halfzee” seeks to evoke a sense of wonder, a quiet contemplation of what lies just beyond our immediate sight, and the elegant simplicity that can be found in the subtle manipulation of reality.
