Mark your calendars! I am thrilled to announce my participation in Water, an upcoming group exhibition at the prestigious TAG Gallery in Los Angeles. This evocative show invites artists across all mediums to explore the multifaceted nature of water—a substance that is simultaneously life-giving, fluid, tranquil, and incredibly powerful. From the familiar to the mysterious, the exhibition serves as a profound investigation of this essential element, whether approached through a literal lens, or through symbolic, abstract, and conceptual interpretations. The exhibition will remain on view throughout the month, running from Wednesday, August 5, through August 28. I look forward to sharing this exploration of water’s many dimensions with you.

Yellowstone Grand Prismatic Springs

Yellowstone’s Grand Prismatic Spring stands as a breathtaking masterpiece of nature, displaying a vibrant spectrum that seems almost otherworldly. At the heart of the pool, the water glows with a profound, deep blue, a result of the light-scattering properties of its sterile, mineral-rich depths. Surrounding this azure center is a radiant display of color created by complex microbial mats. These fringes are teeming with thermophilic bacteria and archaea that thrive in the extreme heat of the runoff. The specific hues—ranging from vivid greens to fiery oranges and reds—are determined by a delicate balance between the water’s temperature gradient and the ratio of chlorophyll to carotenoids within the microbes. As the seasons shift, so too does the pool’s appearance; while the summer sun encourages the growth of brilliant orange and red pigments, the cooler winter months often shift the landscape toward a rich, dark green, ensuring that the Grand Prismatic Spring remains a living, ever-changing canvas of biological wonder.
