Though the property surrounding it has succumbed to the desert’s embrace, the motel’s name, rendered in bold, optimistic letters, remains resolutely in place. Likely installed in the vibrant decade of the 1950s, the sign, with its weathered paint and metal, whispers tales of travelers seeking respite from dusty journeys, of neon dreams glowing in the desert night.
“Flight 55 Bel Air” is a vibrant explosion of pure, unadulterated Americana. A tightly cropped color photograph focusesed on the hood of a gleaming red 1955 Chevrolet Bel Air. The paint, a deep, lustrous Cherry Red, seems to absorb and refract the very essence of nostalgia, radiating a warm, inviting glow. “Wild Ride” is a celebration of the raw, untamed energy that defines the end of a long day’s work on the ranch. Through the warm, almost incandescent glow of the setting sun, I aimed to capture the visceral experience of herding cattle – a dance between human will and animal instinct. The vibrant orange light paints the scene with an ethereal quality, transforming the dust kicked up by the moving herd into swirling clouds of molten gold, momentarily suspending the very earth in a state of dynamic motion.
