Beneath the Castle

Description

Beneath the ancient stone of Edinburgh Castle, a mysterious world unfolds in the cinematic photograph “Beneath the Castle.” The image captures the rough-hewn walls and backlight casts long, painterly shadows that amplify the cavernous feeling. It is a place that whispers of history, of secrets held within the very rock.

Emerging from the light, three figures are rendered not as individuals, but as archetypal silhouettes against the brighter backdrop of the modern city streets. Their forms are reduced to basic outlines, their features lost to the shadows, making them anonymous travelers on a journey through this subterranean passage. The act of “waking through” suggests a purposeful progression, a movement forward despite the oppressive atmosphere, and their presence imbues the desolate space with a sense of human scale and shared experience.
