Description

Sparkles – In the harsh, sun-baked expanse of Mina, Nevada, where the asphalt ribbons stretch towards an indifferent horizon, stands a testament to a bygone era: Sue’s Motel. This color photograph, aptly titled “Sparkles,” captures the vivid, almost defiant hue of its neon sign against a sky of boundless blue. Though the property surrounding it has succumbed to the desert’s embrace, the motel’s name, rendered in bold, optimistic letters, remains resolutely in place. Likely installed in the vibrant decade of the 1950s, the sign, with its weathered paint and metal, whispers tales of travelers seeking respite from dusty journeys, of neon dreams glowing in the desert night. 

Now, in its abandoned state, the sign becomes a poignant symbol, a splash of unexpected color on a desolate road, a reminder of the human presence that once animated this forgotten corner of the American West.
